MP aims to highlight gas dangers
A Labour MP is trying to promote awareness of gas safety issues by putting his own video about the topic online.

Alex Cunningham, MP for Stockton North, recorded the video to highlight the risks posed by poorly installed and maintained gas equipment. Mr Cunningham worked for British Gas before going into politics.

"I have seen first-hand the devastating consequences of dangerous gas work, but incidents [of carbon monoxide poisoning] are preventable," Mr Cunningham said. "But incidents caused by unsafe gas work are preventable.  By taking proper care of gas appliances, people are also taking care of their homes and their loved ones."

The release of the video was timed to coincide with this year's Gas Safety Week, which started on September 19th and ends today (25th). Over the last few days, organisations across the country have run a series of events to promote gas safety awareness.

According to estimates, one in every six UK gas appliances is unsafe.
