Leeds plumber jailed over illegal gas work
A plumber from Leeds has been hit with a prison sentence after gas work he carried out illegally put the lives of a family at risk.

Christopher Shaw - also known as Christopher Parker and who traded as SOS Express Plumbing - undertook the work at a Leeds home between February and August 2013. This was despite never having been registered as a gas engineer.

When a registered engineer came to examine the work, a number of faults were found and the boiler Mr Shaw had worked on was declared 'at risk'. A prohibition notice had previously been served on Mr Shaw in 2011 following concerns over his work.

"The breaches committed by Christopher Shaw were deliberate and the evidence collected indicates he has been carrying out similar fraudulent gas work for a number of years," said Health and Safety Executive inspector Andrea Jones.

In a hearing at Bradford Magistrates' Court, Mr Shaw pleaded guilty to breaching gas safety regulations and was sentenced to a six-month jail term for each of three charges, running concurrently.
