Former RAF engineer reaches new heights with appliance repair business

Now Nathan is a civilian, he will be switching his highly-honed engineering talents from helping our heroes to helping local householders and he has drafted in a six-foot screwdriver to help him.

For Nathan, 37 from Anston, Sheffield is setting up his own appliance repair business as one of the growing number of franchisees investing in the fast expanding and successful national 0800 REPAIR firm.

Nathan will not be missed in the Sheffield area – driving his eye-catching yellow and black van with a giant screwdriver firmly fixed to the roof.  And he will be a welcome sight to householders who are experiencing domestic disasters with broken fridges, cookers, washing machines, tumble dryers and other appliances.

Nathan said: “I really wanted to use my engineering skills to best effect in civilian life, and a friend of mine recommended investing in a franchise with 0800 REPAIR.

“The 0800 REPAIR firm caught my attention because it’s such a strong name and brand – I loved the six-foot screwdriver on the van, and I was really impressed with the company’s business success.

Nathan spent 12 years in the RAF as an aircraft engineer - based at RAF Leeming and RAF Marham and his engineering talent took him all over the world.  But after years of travelling, he decided it was time to settle down in his home town of Anston with his wife, Teresa and children Luke, 5 and Jasmine 3.

He has undergone intensive training in appliance repairs in preparation for his new career.

“I’m very ambitious,” he said. “I’m determined to make a success of being self-employed and after spending most of my career in a disciplined environment, I’m really looking forward to working in a more flexible environment running my own business.

I plan to grow the business with the help of my wife Teresa who will be looking after the administrative side of the business and it’s great as it means we will see a bit more of each other.  Our number one priority is to ensure all our customers in the Sheffield area get a safe, fast and reliable appliance repair service.

I think I’m joining the company at an exciting time, because 0800 REPAIR is gaining such a good reputation with the public and is growing all the time.”

Nathan is hoping his new job will also enable him to spend more time on his hobbies – as a keen astronomer he likes to ‘while away’ the hours stargazing.

0800 REPAIR Managing Director, Paul Feek said it was great to have Nathan on board.

“There’s a real buzz in the company at the moment as we establish more and more franchises across the UK,” he said. “Our aim is to have up to 150 franchises up and running in three years’ time as we become a household name, and Nathan and his highly-skilled fellow franchisees have a big part to play in our success.”
